The “Faulty Oven” That Wasn’t Faulty at All

A recently installed oven in a Cannon’s Creek, Porirua investment property was reported as not working soon after fitting. What initially sounded like an appliance fault turned out to be something far simpler, and easily resolved without any tradesperson callout.
The Issue
An owner arranged for a replacement freestanding oven to be installed at their Cannon’s Creek, Porirua property.
Shortly after installation, the tenant contacted us advising that the oven was not working.
At face value, this could have indicated a faulty appliance or installation issue requiring an urgent callout.
What We Found
Rather than immediately escalating to an electrician or appliance supplier, our property manager took the time to troubleshoot the issue with the tenant over the phone.
During the conversation, it became clear the tenant had not set the oven clock and were unsure how to do so.
Many modern ovens will not operate until the clock or timer is correctly set, which is a common but easily overlooked step after installation.
The Solution
Our property manager guided the tenant through the simple process of setting the clock.
Once completed, the oven immediately began working as expected.
No fault was found with the appliance, and no tradesperson was required.
Why This Matters for Owners
This is a good example of the kind of proactive, hands-on approach that effective property management Porirua owners experience, and that applies across the wider Wellington region, where small issues can easily be mistaken for larger faults.
A less experienced response may have involved arranging a supplier inspection or electrician callout, potentially resulting in avoidable fees and delays.
Instead, a quick conversation and basic troubleshooting resolved the issue instantly.
Sometimes what appears to be a maintenance problem is simply a missing step in setup – and knowing when to investigate further can save owners both time and money.
